Cam-clay constitutive model is one of the best constitutive model for modelling clay under critical state of loading (unloading, reloading) condition But at the same time it requires more parameters than other constitutive models. If soil mass is subjected to only static loading condition Does Cam-clay model have any advantage over other constitutive models.
If soil is not subjected to critical state (not yield), soil is assumed to be purely elasticity for both DP and CC models. DP requires E and v, but CC requires K (or kappa) and G. Both model slightly behave the same except K for CC is not constant.
The key advantage of Critical State framework is both shear strength and consolidation behaviours can be linked with each other using 3D e-p-q plot.
Cam clay model is often used in conjunction with Porous Elasticity model instead of linear elasticity. Porous Elasticity model introduces logarithmic relationship between stress and strain and takes kappa material parameter (from consolidation test), mentioned by Suched.
