If someone could help me, I'm analyzing chronic stress in juvenile bats induced by food restriction, and I was wondering if the basal cortisol level of the mother could affect it (postnatal stade)?
Interesting question. It seems that at in some species and systems the data support a strong linkage between maternal GC's and transmission to offspring and that this can be can be inherited across multiple generations. Below is some work on hares and arctic ground squirrels. In addition, I suggest you look into the avian literature. I know that Sasha Kitayski has done some work with black legged kittiwakes and stress that indicate the same thing.
Good luck!
