Why don't you try the GCDKit software? It is free for download and works in a excel spreadsheet. It is easier, free, and works with windows 8. Good luck.

Minpet can only run under the XP and Win7(32-bit) system and the latest version may be 2.02. GCDKit is based on R and can deal with more data than Minpet, so you can try it. Besides, if you use CorelDraw to revise your figures, why not try to plot directly in CorelDraw? I uploaded an article about this plug-in.

I recommend you to use GCDKit which is compatible with Widows 8.1, because there isn't any way for running Minpet under Windows 8.1. So changing software is easier to do. GCDKit is a good software to work with.

If you really insist to use Minpet, you might try with  VMlite workstation, which is an emulator for XP at windows 8. It works perfectly and uses a part of your resources, but just "economically". Alternatively, Igpet is usefull as well

Can GCDkit be an alternative for MinPet in case of chemical formula recalculation of minerals?

I do apologize but GCDkit cannot recalculate mineral formulae yet. Such a functionality is still under development.

However, R/GCDkit may be a good alternative for visualizing the whole-rock geochemical data and geochemical modelling of igneous processes. We have just published a book on this topic with Springer.

I also need to use it to recalculate clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene chemical composition in order to estimate the equilibrium temperature. The thing is I do not know how to output the data as a excel file from the software. Could you please show me the way how to get the excel file from the software.

I have the same problem. We have a departamental license of minpet but it is useless with the new versions of windows...

Debora Rios Maybe you can try use Vmware Player or Virtual Box to run a Windows XP virtual machine and run Minpet inside the vm.

That was my tmp solution, until I write the GeoPyTool for my own use.

Recalculation chemical composition (as oxides or elements) to a structural formula is usually a very simple matter. This is especially easy with rutile, as it does not contain water, hydroxyls or elements in variable valence.

If you provide a composition here, I will create a table.

However, dear Mohsen Alshaghdari , GCDkit can deal only with whole-rock geochemical analyses. At the moment, it cannot recalculate mineral compositions. But stay tuned, we are working hard on it.
