This is a massive area of research. The list of studies and publications is huge. It really depends on what discipline you want to look at. For multiple disciplines under one roof, I suggest you commence with the publications coming from researchers at the Berkamn Center for Internet & Society, The Global Network of Internet and Society Research Centers (links at Berkman), and the Oxford Internet Institute.
In terms of specific disciplines, Shelley Turkle is prominent in sociology, while the leaders in ICT ethics would be Bernd Stahl or Luciano Floridi. You can also look at EU research projects like GREAT and ETICA. A good general read is The Onlife Initiative.
If you want a critical analysis, Christian Fuchs or Natalie Fenton will provide a classic Marxist critique.

You could also check out The New Quality at http://qesp.org/articles/new-quality, whose author has recently participated in a number of global forums on responsible business conduct (RBC), innovation and development. She suggests that “Behind all conversations, regardless of the industry sector or subject being examined, there was absolute consensus about how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is central to economic growth, and aids to address social challenges.”

I suggest you look at Nick Couldry, especially his book Media, Society, World for a general overview of society and digital media. There are also interesting debates relating to social media and the Arab Spring where some scholars tend to agree more with popular media relating to the role that Twitter played in the uprising, while others disagree and look towards other influences. Google Scholar Arab Spring and social media. A Spanish perspective would be Arnau Monterde and John Postill's relatively recent publication 2013 on Mobile Ensembles. If you are looking for work with an educational focus, I suggest you look up David Buckingham, who has worked with a team that has edited several collections that look at young people, civic life and digital literacy.
