Hi there. I'm not sure if these will be helpful since I haven't been through them but here is a list of quite a few reports from institutions who have run MOOCs: http://www.veletsianos.com/2015/01/05/institutional-mooc-reports-are-we-missing-any/. George Veletsianos also has a paper on student experiences in MOOCs, although I'm not sure if the paper specifically asks any questions about learning: Veletsianos, G. (2013). Learner Experiences with MOOCs and Open Online Learning. Hybrid Pedagogy. Retrieved on September 27, 2013 from http://learnerexperiences.hybridpedagogy.com.
I've attended several MOOC courses from Coursera & Khan Academy. I'm also going to write a paper compare and discuss MOOCs in several platforms. Here are some differents between Khan and Coursera I've found:
- Khan Academy is for any age while Coursera is for higher education
- Coursera offers Specialization (series of course) while Khan Academy provides tiny topics which havinng the ability of aggregation (like Lego game)
- Coursera looks like more formal in which they give begin and end date (deadline for asigment, peer review, project) , more social connection(like discussion forum). Coursera have few self-pace courses (learners study by themselves with theire most flexible time, no deadline)
- Khan Academy looks like more informal and it is better for life-long learning while Coursera is professional-oriented.
- Reward mechanism of Khan Academy is based on score and avatar while Coursera provide "Statement of Accomplisment" (Verified Certificate if I pay money)
- Khan Academy is free, Coursera has fee charging for enhance mode (Verified Certificate and doing Capstone Project)
I hope that I will find more interesting things from our discussion to write my paper, especially the literature review

I think that story about to the MOOCs is focused in the self-regulated learning. Maybe have emerged differente points of view. Here, there are many researches and debates around this topic.
Thanks to all for the answers provided. As I thought, little work on SRL in MOOCs has been carried out despite calls from researchers such as Gasevic (1) and Breslow (2) for research in this area and a general acceptance that as learners are asked to take more responsibility for their learning in MOOCs. Aside from our own research (3) the most relevant research was conducted by Poellhuber (4). others such as Nawrot (5) have focused on specific aspects of self-regulation such as time management.
