We have published about the ability of apatite for attenuation of uranium from water. Ca in calcium phosphate can be replaced by uranyl ion which commonly exists in oxidized shallow groundwater. Are there any other radionuclides that do similar replacement?
Yehia, I think you can also find a variety of other actinides stable or co-precipitating with calcium phosphate, including Pu, Th, and Pa. Of course, these are all at relatively low levels in most natural waters compared to U, and also sorb/react with other minerals relatively easily. There are probably data in the literature from laboratory kinetic and thermodynamic studies to quantify the effects with apatite. I would suggest a literature search of journal articles such as web of science as a starting point.
I would also suspect that Sr may replace calcium due to the high coordination number of calcium in apatite.
