I am interested in knowing some experience in research about the impacts suffered by the biological soil crust by activities such as trekking, 4x4 or mountain bikes travels, or in any case mechanical damage induced by human activities.
Olive, Nathaniel D., and Jeffrey L. Marion. "The influence of use-related, environmental, and managerial factors on soil loss from recreational trails." Journal of environmental management 90, no. 3 (2009): 1483-1493.
It's mostly about soil erosion, don't know if Biological Soil Crusts are mentioned, but maybe it is also useful.
Yes, there's a great deal of work on this, much of it by Jayne Belnap and colleagues at the US Geological Survey and elsewhere.. A great resource on soil crusts is this website: http://www.soilcrust.org/index.htm.
Weber et al. 2016. pp. 479-498. In Biological soil crusts: an organizing principle in drylands. Springer-Verlag. - summarizes a wide variety of recovery rates from disturbances including foot traffic and vehicle tracks. No data on mountain bikes that I know of.
