I'm doing a doctoral thesis that relates traffic accidents with other risks that account for a similar number of fatal accidents, but that do not receive similar treatment by both the administration and the media. The study aims to analyze the impact that a similar campaign would have on the results of these accidents to that of road accidents. For this purpose, data will be collected on the quantity and characteristics of the publications made in the Spanish media on each type of accident.
It's important to remember that injury is a continuum of severity. Nonfatal or all-injury studies can be as relevant as studies of fatalities. Also, it sounds like your study focuses on unintentional injury.
One common factor between MV and other causes of unintentional injury is alcohol. See in my publications, e.g.,

It is unlikely that the curve you show above has much to do with media coverage. Road crash deaths change dramatically as the road system develops and the volume of cars grows, reaching a peak and then dropping. When did Mexico pave most of its roads, e.g.?
Thank you very much Ted for your contributions. In any case, I think it is difficult to record the number of serious (non-fatal) accidents in cases such as accidental falls, suicides and choking. On the other hand, I understand the difficulty of weighing the effect that the media may have had on the reduction of traffic accidents. The key question would be to know if a media action similar to that carried out in traffic accidents could affect other causes of accidents as indicated above.
Am I correct in understanding that your thesis is that a public relations campaign about falls (leading to mortality and morbidity) could lead to a reduction in those events comparable to the reduction already observed in automobile accidents (leading to mortality and morbidity)?
