Well, if PMI is thermoset, then it should be foamed just like tannin-based resins. You'll find a lot of papers to download in my RG profile. Any solvent of low boiling point (pentane, diethyl ether, mixtures of both, ...) may be used as blowing agent whereas crosslinking take place.
Thank you Professor, i'll read your papers to findout. Is tannin-based foaming similar with polyurethane one, which usually consist of two components to be reacted, i.e. polyol (additive included) and isocyanate?
Yes, absolutely. Foaming can be physical (i.e. a gas is formed which is not the product of a chemical reaction, e.g. due to the boiling of a solvent because of the heat generated by the polymerization) ot chemical (e.g. isocyanates react with water present in the system and CO2 is generated). In tannin-based resin, the first kind of foaming works, but addition of isocyanates makes the second kind possible. A mixed physical/chemical foaming is also possible.
