How to determine the error of the measurement in DLS analysis? Aftwer getting DLS data (particle size distribution) of untreated and treated samples, how do we compare those results with the error of the measurement? Is it true, that we have to find the error percentage of the measurement to validate data?
I agreed with Katarzyna. We also did at least 5 measurements.
Another point is, if you are measuring just after preparing your particles it should be ok, but if you wait and continue another DLS measurement, particles can agglomerate and this cause an error for sure. you should disperse (mix) your particles. That was my error reason.
You have olso to carefully consider the concentration of particles in the samples. Are they comparble in the different semples you want to compare ??
First, if you care the error of the measurement, in other words, if you want to validate the measurement, you should use the standard sample like polystyrene latex. If you know the approximate size of the "treated sample" and "untreated sample", you have better use the polystyrene latex with similar diameter.
Second, you should check the auto-correlation curve and setting of time-constant and channels, such as 10us X 1024ch or so. Auto-correlation curve should be decreased to around 1 at longer time scale. Thus you should monitor the auto-correlation curve when you get the DLS data.
