I'm looking for the most dense planes in CoO system. The space group is Fm-3m. An area of 111,110 and 100 three planes.
CoO has the NaCl structure in the F m-3m space group. It is face centred cubic, and its closest packed plane is {111}.
Regarding the area of the planes: your question as asked doesn't make a lot of sense. If you mean the area of the (hkl) plane, a distance d(hkl) from the origin, which fits inside the first unit cell, then the answers are as follows:
That portion of the (111) plane which fits inside the first unit cell is an equilateral triangle with side length a / SQRT(2). It therefore has area a^2 SQRT(3) / 8.
That portion of the (110) plane which fits inside the first unit cell is a rectangle with side lengths a and a / SQRT(2). It therefore has area a ^2 / SQRT(2).
That portion of the (100) plane which fits inside the first unit cell is a square with side length a. It therefore has area a^2.
