I am working on the natural fibre composite and one of the purpose is to enhance its flame resistance properties. I just want to know several details on the mixture between this resin with the catalyst wether it can just use the MEKP alone or need other chemicals in the mixture.
Hello, You can use external additives like APP (ammonium polyphosphate), RP (red phosphorus) or MP (melamine phosphate) for example from Clariant, or ZincBorate from US Borax trademark FireBrake. You can used ATH or MDH (Aluminum trihydrate, Magnesium dihydrate) too. Manufacturer recommends approx. 3% ATO (antimony trioxide) but it is not recommended for the Environment.
I would recommend Alumina trihydrate (ATH) as a filler. The most important thing is the standardization as you now have two filler or reinforcement (ATH and the natural fibres). Optimization may help in getting the fibre/filler matrix ration depending on the intended applications of the composites.
