I want to transform grad from Cartesian coordinates to spherical polar. Could anyone provide the details for this?
I would also like to be able to transform grad to any coordinate system, even non-orthogonal ones.

My apologies for a comment I made in the partial answer I gave. I effectively said that grad was a line in space with a definite magnitude and direction. This does not now seem to me, to be the correct way to think of grad.

When I have been on about 'grad', being seen as a line in space or not, I really should have been on about 'grad f' the gradient of a function f.
