I have a glassy carbon electrode covered with a layer of azidobenzen. I introduced it in a solution containing ethynylferrocene and copper sulfate. Finally I add some ascorbic acid. But the coupling is not working. What should be the color of the solution during the click reaction?

You can also try the conditions where catalytic CuI and tertiary amine are used for the click chemistry, in solvents like THF or the likes. It is very effective, in your case it would not require ascorbate.

What solvents are you using? I normally use 10 % water in organic solvent, I found it was the best...Your solution should be yellow-brown. Blue indicates the presence of copper II and that is inactive.

My question is also how do you store the electrodes after they have been modified with the azide groups? Is the azide stable in air? Or it is better to keep the electrodes in some solution?
And when one adds the ascorbic acid (prepapred in H2O), it should be added dropwise or on one shot?
