I will soon be working on understanding how Streptococcus pneumoniae responds to different stresses when grown in various conditions in our lab. To begin with, I have to figure out growth conditions under aerobic conditions. I couldn't get a detailed protocol as most of the labs seem to be working on this microbe under anaerobic conditions. Any insight will be helpful ! Thanks !
I looked at some sources and was surprised by a lack of clear information on this pathogen. Since it lives in the respiratory system, it obviously is able to survive in aerobic conditions. Some called it a facultative anaerobe and thishttps://textbookofbacteriology.net/S.pneumoniae.html called it a fermentative aerotolerant anaerobe and does provide info on its autolysin which might give you some ideas on what you need to be aware of to find aerobic growth conditions.
Have easily grown thousands of isolates of S pneumonia aerobically
