It seems that I have some algae material from the bottom of the dryed lake. There were some A. antarcticus there. I need to check my sample collection. But these samples are rather old, collected in 1991, so it can be difficult to receive living specimens.
Thanks. I will be waiting and cross fingers for Acutuncus :). It is many of them in this region. If you need any help with culturing the tardigrades just ask. What species you plan to culture?
Hey, I am new to this field but planning to explore Tardigrades in my region. Have a few questions as a novice: 1. For easy, reproducible results with extracting and identifying tardigrades what general sequence of steps one should consider? 2. Is it worth to first expand and maintain monoxenic culture before moving on to microscopy (morphometrics and morphology estimation) and DNA barcoding. 3. Is it possible to store all tardigrades in their dryed samples after collection leading to a big archive. 4. Also if all tardigrades need or can be stored at - 80 deg C, ultra deep freezer, is it advisable. 5. I am planning to take picture of a tardigrade on slide, is it possible to go for DNA barcoding, from just one individual, is it advjsable?. 6. What protocols do your lab follow in general
and specifically while working with water bears. It would be a great help Lukaz.
