When trying copolymerizaton of commercially available vinly pyridine with comononmers which are supposed to be compatible (e.g. styrene) precipitation was observed already whn mixing the monomers. The original sample mixes, however, with e.g. dichloromethane, so is is not oligomer or other impurity. If anybody has experience with this compound, I would appreciate.
Dea Michael, thank you for your note. Yes, it is 4-vinyl pyridine. According to literature data it copolymerizes with e.g. stryere or methyl-methacrylate and several other monomers. It assumes that the monomers are miscible. Whe I observed precipitation my first assumption is that the commercially available sample was not pure enough. The most obvious contamination would be polymerization or oligomerization if the inhibitor is consumed. Of course we will repeat the experiments after distillation, I just wondered whether someone else also observed such incompatibility and what might be the reason.
