Specifically, I am interested in: Sensitivity and Selectivity, comparison with reference method for SO2 measurements, recovery period needed after each gas exposure, or equivalent, recommended frequencies of measurements for urban pollution monitoring.
I have been involved with metal oxide gas sensors for some years but have never come across their use for sensing SO2. I feel that the best option would be to use an electrochemical gas sensor.

I'm afraid Robert Bogue is right. I always linked SO2 sensors for ambient levels with electro-chemical cells. MOS sensors (mostly based on wolframoxides are used in stack measurements, with typical sensitivity of 100 ppm and higher at elevated temperatures. Did you check sites like EPA’s Air Sensor Toolbox for Citizen Scientists and linked information?
