The concept of fuzzy controllers is very successful in almost all the domains of Engineering. I was just want to know how these fuzzy controllers are implemented in real time. How the rule base, membership functions etc. are made so as to built an actual fuzzy controller ? Kindly suggest.....

There are serveral implemenation concepts available which are based on parametrizable membership functions. The implemenations include micro-processor-based and FPGA-based (called Fuzzy-accelerators) variants. The FPGA-based variants are fast, but harder to implement. One of the leading Universities in Germany is the Technical University of Chemnitz (http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/etit/sse/Forschung/index.html.en). Mamy papers are available but unfortunately for you, most of them ar written in german.

FYI: Siemens have a product called FuzzyControl for their Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). While it may not be a pure hardware only implementation (rules are created in PLC specific code) it was designed to be used in real-time. I don't know internal workings of the product but rules arereasonably easy to produce (even though the user interface is a bit dated). I have used FuzzyControl for advanced process control in iron ore mining and pellet production. It's surprisingly effective.

Fuzzy control is one the success stories in engineering during the past 30 years, thanks to the papers on fuzzy sets ilntroduced by Lotfi Zadeh during the mid-1960s. I remember seeing a beautifully designed fuzzy rice cooker in a department store in Singapore 20 years ago. I wanted to buy that rice cooker but it was too expensive for me at that time (it cost roughly $300). Rice cookers are still expensive at half the original price. See, for example,
