I am looking to co-culture/compete some B. subtilis with other microbes. I am new to this model organism and the field so I don't yet have any contacts to ask for strains. Does anyone on this forum have a B. subtilis strain that expresses a constitutive flourophore or know of labs/publications I should look into?

Well, I worked with the B. subtilis 168 lab strain. NADH binds very tightly to the protein AraM, which is a bacterial Glycerol-1-Phosphate Dehydrogenase. The protein is expressed naturally at constant level. Due to this tight binding of NADH the protein emmits blue light with a maximum at 425 nm (excitation at 340 nm, or using FRET at 285 nm). Visible even by eye. It works great in vitro, but never tried in vivo.
