Hi, does anyone have, or know of, any good examples, of an online 'knowledge bank' - I'm using this as a shorthand for something like a public online repository for their organisation's evidence, either internal, external or both. And something that organises evidence in a rational way and communicates messages for non research professionals? Any thoughts would be great, thanks.
Quora.com can be a knowledge bank but it will take serious users a lot of filtering to assess the quality of the answers. Most of them are rubbish but you can find answers based on research or answers that can be used in research, especially when users share their personal experiences in reply to questions.
My reading of Martin's question was that it was about available software or cloud resources where one could manage, store and communicate a knowledge or research repository in a way that is accessible to all users (maybe from all walks of life). Martin, was that what you were asking?
Hi Wendy, thanks for your thoughts. I was really just interested in any kinds of feedback at the moment which is why I kept the question open to interpretation. I'm at the very early stages of giving this some thought and come to it from a pretty low base, so didn't want to close any avenues.
The more I look into it though the more I feel this is as much about the WAY the information is presented as it is about the software/ platform (as an aside I've had the software Helpjuice suggested to me, and also Confluence).
I guess this is leading me to think about this being a two-stranded relationship. Making sure that our information answers the questions that our customers want, but also presenting it in a format that is as accessible as possible to them. Does that make sense?
On that note I'm really keen to hear from anyone who have set up/ used any good examples of online resources, where organisations have presented their information in a user friendly format. Thanks.
Ok that is helpful context. So you are looking at it as a two-way customer relationship then. There is a whole lot of stuff on this in the business sector which could be applicable in a social or healthcare sector I imagine but I haven't worked in those spaces.
My question is from within an academic research hub which makes media articles, clips, campaigns as well as report written for policy and/or public dissemination, one-pagers etc available in a central "knowledge hub" that works for academics, practitioners, journalists, policymakers, members of the public at "grassroots" level - so being me I first want to find an electronic structure and then work at figuring out how to structure it and then put the content in. Probably back to front thinking on my part. To me 'customers' and FAQs and sharing really useful info is a different 'kettle of fish' but it probably isn't.

I don't know if this is what you mean by a digital knowledge bank, but I suspect this fits in - to my mind, one of the most comprehensive and useful repository of knowledge. In this case, a massive archive of life in inter-War Harlem, which allows readers of White et. al.'s book to review much of their original source material, as it provides material for a wide range of scholars and interested readers to conduct their own research.
