Bertrand's theorem  can be found in some textbooks on classical mechanics (e.g.Goldstein) . It says that in flat space closed (not necessarily circular) orbits can be created either by harmonic oscillator or by Newton potentials. Surprisingly, this result was embedded into  the formalism of general relativity. If  this is so, why then we still need to keep/to use the classical mechanics formalism?
