We’re conducting a project on documenting the wear on a stamp used for countermarking roman coins during the reign of Augustus. The aim is to try and establish an overview of the movements of the Roman Legions XVII, XVIIII and XIX and their commander Quinctilius Varus in 9 AD, before being annihilated in the Battle of the Teutoburger Wald. Does anybody know about the application of high-resolution 3D-Scanning, preferably structured light, on the documentation of coins from any period?
