I usually give each student in the class a copy of the course description and course plan at the beginning of the new academic year so that they will be familiar with the material they will study through out the semester.
I usually do post the course plan on the Bb to my students to keep them on the right track.

They will create topics, learn details about each topic and prepare independent reports on each topic. Doing so will help me expand the details of the subject to increase their skills. At my university in Illinois, USA, it is required that all faculty members provide the course outline, grading criteria and course objectives at the beginning of each semester.

I would add that at each beginning, it was a lecture, a meeting, a training must be called the so-called " technical details, including the specific topics that will familiarize your audience with you. Otherwise, it will not be interesting or expected, plus it may be uncomfortable, that is, not to get the desired effect unless you are clear and specific at the outset.

Usually at the beginning of each academic year the students will have a lecture by the department staff describing the whole syllabus for each subject given including theory lectures and practical sessions, as well as methods of examination, distributions of the marks, time tables for lectures and practical sessions, if possible at this early lecture. But sure it would be displaced within a week.

This is important. You should be ready with the course outline before the start of the semester itself. Prepare the course outline covering objectives, lecture and practical schedules, assignments, contact hours, assessment criteria, main references books along with an outline of expectations of students. Explain the course outline at the first lecture itself, and inform the students where and how to get help, facilities, helpful web sites, learning support, and other general information.
