Six Sigma can be applied only in specific contexts where SPS can be applied. Even when we do DfSS it can be measured only if the process is continuous and generates enough data points. There are many other tools and methods which can be used for process improvement. Judicious selection of the tool is a critical success factor. By the way, Six sigma does not question the fundamentals or try to eliminate the process completely, it refines it into more predictable one.

However, The Six Sigma standard defines zero defects as 3.4 defects per million opportunities (DPMO).
