Yes, antibiotic resistance in microorganisms is a matter of serious concern. Bacteria have been reported to develop resistance against several antibiotics including 'penicillin' , the first antibiotic discovered by Alexander Flemming in 1928. Therefore, too much use of antibiotics need to be avoided, otherwise a stage would come when pathogenic microorganisms would develop resistance against antibiotics causing large scale mortality of human population.

The most plausible doomsday scenario in the next few decades is the so-called superbug, as infectious bacteria become increasingly resistant to our best antibiotics. Drug-resistant superbugs are rising in the world because of lack of regulation of antibiotics in developing countries. But I hope new discoveries will lead to fight any kind of bacteria in coming days.

I think "superbugs" will be a great threat and of serious concern......but will not be stronger enough to destroy our civilization. R& D on genetic engineering is growing and, therefore, it will be an important tool to protect us alongwith the obvious protective umbrella offered by antibiotics, etc.

However, we must be committed to our mother nature and never ever neglect our assigned responsibility to protect 'her' with a view to protect 'us'.

There are other technologies than just antibiotics, which might provide the answer to superbugs. Historically, that's how the human race has progressed. You don't necessarily attack a new problem by relying only on old solutions. It was that way with antibiotics, and it might just happen again? So, aside from just more potent antibiotics, and rotating the use of antibiotics, nanotech might also come to the rescue.

No it will not happen. We humans will develop antibodies over a period of time and the superbugs will sure stop having effects on us!!
