Dear Khurram, what type of mtehod (e.g. moving average or convolution) do you use for smoothing and differentiation of data? Also, do you use numerical software like Mathematica or Matlab? Thanks.  Gianluca

For smoothing moving average is good but window length should be carefully selected. Convolution may result same as moving average for all ones in the second vector.

Difference operators have many types. Normally laplacian operator is used.

I have good command over MATLAB. I use method of least square error for mathematical modelling. Other methods are also used like regression etc
