We found a tomato genotype that had large area of leaves covered by Phytophthora infestans sporulating mycelium without any chlorosis or necrosis at least during one week after inoculation (25-28oC day/15-18oC night). In contrast, other tomato plants had either chlorosis or necrotic lesions, and all potato plants - rapid necrosis. Do you know other tomato genotypes with such reaction?

In the second paper is stated that the TMS-2 shows resistance, but I think is not foliar resistance as you have experienced. However it is recommended to have a look at this specific article.

If you are testing for resistance, I would recommend you to take care also of the humidity in your controlled environment, which could impact on the ability of Phytophthora to infect your plants.

Francesco Desiderio Thank you! I would not call it "resistance", it is a high level of tolerance to the pathogen, but it helps to the pathogen accumulation in field/greenhouse.
Well Alex Ignatov, depending on the school "resistance" and "tolerance" have sometimes a very subtile difference. In marketing resistance terminology is preferred even if research sometimes disagree. However, I would say that indeed, this looks more like a tolerance, but still further analysis are needed. Have you tried to quantify the viral titre throughout ELISA/PCR/qPCR and cross those results with your phenotypical observations?

Speaking about tolerance to potato virus - we met new cultivars with low titre of PVY, below ELISA sensitivity for tubers, but 100% plants were infected. Infection over PVY with PVX or PVM reduced the yield, but PVY alone had no effect.
