I am interested in the conceptualization of empowerment in Arab-Islamic context through language, and the discourse that underlies empowerment, and I want to find out if it is only used in specific issues (women or youth empowerment) or as collective and peaceful way of improving human rights.

My command of Arabic is far from perfect, but I reckon the word ''tamkin'' can have even negative connotations of obedience and control , it could mean endorsing a certain circumstance or contract ,
native speakers of Arabic can certainly offer plausible and valid interpretationa nonetheless. Moreover, in my humble opinion, it could be used both collectively and individually.
This is a very interesting and thoughtful question, Ana! You have piqued my curiosity on this matter, and of course, it needs to be contextualised. I wonder if "EMPOWERMENT" is linked to the control, freedom or authority to do something (as in English), but not limited to young people or women, but to any action, and even, to some Arab men, who may now be officially able to do something they were not used to doing in the past. I am not that expert in this area, but in Jordan this word is mainly used for Women and Youth but in the context of human rights. For example Women empowerment in leadership positions / Work / etc. Some times it is used for people with disabilities, or poor people .. Hope this help. If you can read Arabic I will try to find some articles for you (if any).

empowerment through tamkin ? is that what what you are working ? Tamkin leads only to disempowerment, subjugation and suppression of women , in case you are using it in a feminist context , I cant imagine tamkin causing any peace, it creates toxic
obedience, control and denigration , not peace , obedience is not tantamount to peace .
Thanks Dr. Rahimi for your comment, I find it very interesting because in the literature I have consulted in Arabic 'tamkin' is always used in the positive sense of 'making able' or 'capable' to make something. I am not working specifically in women or gender studies, I only wonder why the the use of 'tamkin' is usually attached to this field or related to disfavoured collectives. If then you find this concept in a negative sense of obedience and oppression, could you give me a new translation of the word 'tamkin' in the context you mention?
