A general answer and one that seems reasonable is that "wind distributed" pollens are more frequently the cause of human allergies. "Bee distributed" pollens are less frequently encountered by humans, so cause less problems. Wind distributed pollens are generally from trees with inconspicuous flowers (they have no benefit from attracting insects) but also from grasses and specific plants that produce a lot of pollen. Plants with conspicuous flowers produce less pollen and it is sticky. Bees and other insects are relatively efficient delivery vehicles.

Many people feel that consuming honey produced in the same area where pollen allergies occur, confers some protection to the consumer. The concept is that the wind-borne pollens become trapped in the nectar which is gathered by bees and made into honey. The person consuming the honey thus has a different type (digestive) of exposure to the pollen and so (through a different immune reaction) avoids the allergic reaction triggered by respiratory exposure.
