I am currently trying to find ways to extract, as automatically as possible, bibliographic entries from accessible, editable (i.e. not image files) PDF files, in any format. My next move would be to compare those extracted lists against a list containing selected publications and then highlight the matching ones in the original files or, at least, knowing which files contain matching publications. I have already tested several existing Windows programmes, but with no success. As far as I know, Mendeley, Zotero, JabRef, cb2bib, etc. can extract the metadata from PDF files, but only recognise information about that same PDF, not about any cited references included in it. If necessary, I am ok with manually isolating (=extracting) the biblography from the PDF file before working on it. Any hints?
