Gafchromic is a proposal, but of course you still need your Rando phantom. You can use the DLP dose length product of your CT for an estimation of the medium dose in the irradiated volume. But this delivers just an estimation no localized distinct dose values.

I can only recommend using our validated MC software "ImpactMC" which was specifically designed for performing simulations of modern CT scanners ;-)

An alternative method would be, if you liked to measure, to use OSL dosimeter. You can find information here:

The OSL basically works the same as the TLD, therefore it will not improve neither the workload nor the costs. Gafchromic will reduce the costs (by the amount needed for the TLD or OSL reader) but the workload will not be significantly improved.

In my opinion, the first step would be measure the DLP & CTDI with a proper instrument and phantoms - see, for instance, the Nomex with the CTDI set described at http://www.ptw.de/ctdi_set_for_ct_dosimetry0.html?&cId=3277&MP=2916-2917 - and then use these measurements as input for Monte Carlo simulations.
