In Europe for instance, the EN40 standardization text for certified by the CE mark lighting masts, leaves the various national authorities free to introduce such rules or not ( EN40-3-3 chap 8 ). However, additional rules are available in the structural Eurocodes 1, 3 and 9, including a wind fatigue load model ( EC1 ) and resistance rules ( EC3 for steel and EC9 for aluminium ). A lighting mast owner has to specify if and how he wants the structural eurocodes being applied to this type of construction, specifing essentially the aim regarding the lifespan of service ( e.g. 50 years of durability ). Of course, this durability is a just a criter of design and not an assurance: it has nothing to do with the concept of warranty period, as it is defined in some countries.
