Me and three other Italian colleagues are collecting data on the occurrence of Teals with a white collar around the neck, which seemingly represents a rare morph of this species. Anyone possessing observations, data on numbers, either recent and ancient, pictures, conserved specimens of this kind of individuals is warmly asked to provide them. One of the most well documented cases of aberrant plumages in waterfowl is the presence of a white neck ring. It is known to occur in many species of dabbling ducks (genus Anas).
Here are a couple papers on white neck rings in other species. There are also references within for Anas crecca.
