I am currently looking for a new research topic for my Ph.D. Specifically, what I did in MA courses was explore the determinants of vulnerability. Here, I consider poverty, covariate risk, and idiosyncratic (household-specific risks) as elements of vulnerability. Then, during my Ph.D. (near future), I want to do my research about land reform and climate change especially in the context of the philippine focusing on CARP and Livelihood by using panel data and some qualitative data. Does anyone have an idea about it?

Illiteracy and innumeracy are critical and under-researched dimensions of both poverty and vulnerability. They become even more salient in the context of both land reform and climate change, because land reform involves documentation (inviting literate predation) and climate change requires setting up social security nets, which are usually predicated on the assumption of universal literacy, even in nations that are no close to meeting that condition. Political actors would prefer to believe that illiteracy and innumeracy are quickly vanishing as all children are encouraged into schools, but school quality has not kept up, and far too many nations remain many decades away from that ideal.

I would suggest you back up what you want to challenge by citations in academic journals. So, this would be the theoretical background which you would want to question. To get clarity, a theory is usually formulated as If A, Then X. So then the question you are raising should be, either If A, then Y? or if B, then X?
