Organic farming and biological control may be possible only in some scattered patches around the world. On global scale as a whole it is not possible to completely avoid chemical inputs and also availability of such a huge quantity of organic sources is not practically possible.
In the light of climate change, am about a project that looks at adoption organic farming (climate smart practice) as an innovation to reduce the impacts of climate change and variability.
In India now on the name of soil health improvement, conservation of natural resources etc. promotion of use of organic inputs is being done in several schemes sponsored by national government.
The 20th Century was the period of "chemical based" agriculture, with breathtaking progress in yields parallel to propulation-increase from 2 to 7 bio. people. Green-Revolution was the conspicuous element, added by fine breeding progress. The DDT-catastrophe, the nitrogen-polution of enormous groundwater-aquifers in Europe, the atrazin-catastrophe as sample of herbicide-induced polution, animal-factory-farming, and now the upcoming details of bees-death worldwide ----together with many other eco-system-damages by chemo-agric-systems --- will induce and trigger a worldwide re-thinking and eco-balanced agricultural philosophy & practice in 21st century. The sober facts and figures get more and more into the media and into the general consciousness. Vegetarian and vegan nutrition is gaining unexpected momentum in Germany and other countries. Let us be patient and eco-optimistic......and not to forget: We personally are also & always part of the system, with many duties for a creation-conform agriculture and livelihood.
