I agree that new technologies will never replace traditional teaching. However, traditional teaching may require teachers to be competent in new technologies.
Contemporary education provides students with information that was not available decades ago. Some of those content may require technologies for classroom representation. Other educational technologies are used for assessment. Traditional teaching requires valid and reliable measurement. Valid and reliable measurements are carried out through technologies such as national/central examinations. We may list more technologies which are used to power traditional teaching.
Therefore, even though traditional teaching is still the essence of education, it now relies on "new" technologies.
It will facilitate and enhance teaching. May be some of the old will be reshaped like whiteboard and marker are used instead of blackboard and chalk same like will be with others
The mindset of students today is changing.Traditional chalk and talk won't augur well to students now. To drag and hold onto their attention they demand new technologies like use of audio visual aids to attract their attention. However we can't remain aloof of modern technology as that is the need of hour given the mentality of present day students. However new technology has to be used selectively wherever required and not across the board. A good mix of traditional and new technology will serve the purpose or a combinatorial approach will help a lot in enhancing the effectiveness of teaching learning process in general.
