Technical Report How to Teach Vocational Education: A theory of vocational pedagogy
I think that very important part of the education is education in real work place. The relationship between practice and teory is the key to minimize the gap between what students learn in college and what they are expected to know. Creating partnerships between business and universities narrows the gap between the institutions.
I think the curriculum of the college and the delivery credentials have to be in tandem with the requirements of the industry and service sector. The choice of subjects and subject contents have to be in tune with needs of the stake holders and end users. The contents have to be updated at regular intervals in line with changing needs on socio-economic and technological fronts. The curriculum should provide for better exposure of students to industrial environment through internships and industry sponsored projects. There has to be a strong liaison with outside world of work of the institutes and in turn students and faculty too. A strong industry institute interaction is a must. Industry professionals should have an important role in framing the syllabus and assessment of projects, conducting viva etc. Faculty too should be trained by industry to get an exposure. Students should be imparted with all necessary skills, competencies, technical knowledge, soft or generic skills, values and virtues through a sound curriculum and better rapport with world of work will make the passouts job ready.
