What is the ERA5 data?
ERA5 provides hourly estimates of a large number of atmospheric, land and oceanic climate variables. The data cover the Earth on a 30km grid and resolve the atmosphere using 137 levels from the surface up to a height of 80km.
How do I get data from ERA5?
You can search for the dataset you are interested in, such as 'ERA5-Land hourly data from 1981 to present' . Then go to the 'Download data' tab, where you can see the CDS Download form. Once you have ticked the data characteristics, you can go to the bottom of the form and click on 'Show Toolbox request' .
What is the resolution of ERA5?
ERA5 data will be at a much higher resolution than ERA-Interim: hourly analysis fields will be available at a horizontal resolution of 31 km on 137 levels, from the surface up to 0.01 hPa (around 80 km).
How long does it take to download ERA5 data?
Basically, the size of data downloaded via CDS API is 2.1MB, but it takes 45 minutes.
