We are currently seeing the proliferation of trolls in order to influence public opinion. This practice seeks to thin open, transparent communication between people with their own identity and not truncated. Is it relevant at the present time to include in our ethics courses in universities a chapter on trolls that seek to influence public opinion or is it simply a technological issue? I believe that it is a practice that is at odds with ethics, by hiding the identity of its promoters, which would lead to the establishment of ethical and criminal sanctions. The proliferation of trolls as well as unverifiable news reporting are the negative effects of new technologies. No information appears to be safe or is protected from hacking or trolling and it has become the onus of individuals to protect themselves since neither the government nor the industry gives a darn about people or privacy.
The question is how we want to distinguish between the action of trolls and the action of bots. Single' trolls are a phenomenon for sociopsychological research, troll farms and bots, it is a question of geopolitics, political economy and general discussions on the theory of influence and hegemony.
The problem is further complicated by the fact that trolls (single trolls) are often activated, they are swarming due to the fact that some things have been "heated up" by the bots. In this way trolls become unaware (often) soldiers in someone else's cyber-war. I would search for explanations on the level of hidden institutions financing bots and troll farms, in my opinion the basic driving force of the phenomenon is there.
