My friend told me that manipulating the time and the RPM of the centrifuge machine we can actually change the size of the quantum dots but could not explain why. I need help in this regard.
You friend openion is correct. With centrifuge we can obtain different size of nano-particles but it influence the optical and quantum yeild of the sample. Generally centrifugation is used for the purification of QDs, tuning the size of QDs. This means for separte the larger and unreacted particles, centrigugation is used.
As we know, with due to centrifugale force particles are setalled down from colloidal solution. On increasing the time and rpm, particle size can be tunned. But as I told this is not a effective way for tuning the particle size.
For tuning the particle size, we can tune the surfactant and ligands amount. Such as in perovskite QDs, particle size can be tuned by varing the amount of oleylsmine.
