Do text books limit learning for young learners (Kindergarten and Primary Students)?

Is there any good empirical study on the effects of using text books on young learner's achievement? My hypothesis is that school's that prescribe text books in early years limit what the students can learn and kill the essence of inquiry-based learning.

The literature supports your hypothesis . However, the onus is on the teacher's discretion to use technology /teaching materials to supplement the teaching and learning process. The textbook can never be the sole reliance in the teaching and learning ecosystem but it's a guide to facilitate learning.
