Specialized journals are the number 1 choice. Has any scientist had an article published in a book? When is it good to publish an article in a book, instead of in a journal?
The advantage of publishing in a journal is that the turn around time an be shorter whereas it takes a relatively longer time for publication in a book as a chapter. I have had one published as a chapter, see Chapter Geography is Destiny: Spatial Correlations in Poverty and Ed...
I thank you for your excellent reply. You make a good point because I did not realize that in the academic disciplines in the sciences, it takes longer for a chapter in a book to be published than for a journal article. In fact, I had gotten the impression that scientists publish the majority of their work in online formats!
Now that I think about it, the sciences are optimally concerned with the physical world of concrete, measurable reality. This suggests that a book carries intrinsic value as a landmark of enduring relevance. Congratulations to you!
And what a nice surprise to receive your interesting article on New Mexico in _Geography Is Destiny_!
