Do you notice any discrepancy between the literal and semantic meaning of the Arabic loan words in your language as the recipient language compared to the original semantic and literal meaning of the words in the Arabic language as the donor language? Please share some words that you noticed and the discrepant meanings. Please share extra info like cultural aspects of it if you have especially on the relevant history. Thank you.
At first it is possible to notice the existence of a discrepancy, but it is caused by the overlap of the colloquial dialect with the language, or the presence of other languages imported from another, neighboring, or Colonial Country.
Salam. When I first started this thread, we had an ISIP educational program with Dr. Ibrahim Bouzidani (Algeria), a Senior lecturer at Istanbul University talking about his book on "Al-Harith bin Asad Al-Muhasibi, His Nine Stages Technique of Behaviour Modification [by auditing self]".
During the talk people were asking what is the meaning of "khatir" (sing.) khawatir (plural). Not everyone knows Arabic language, thus, asking for the meaning although he already prepared both languages: Arabic and English translation of the ancient work.
So, some people wondered what phantasm he academically used. Some people thought it is sweet memory in Persian and Turkish loan word. Malays particularly used khawatir, which is spelt: khuatir - differently - means he feels worried e.g., in the Malay alternative local words: risau/bimbang.
However, some suggested the translation fantasy, imagination, automatic thoughts, opinion, glimpses of thought, etc. Instead, other people saw it through the lense of Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah who was quoted to mean (Ar.) "ilhaam": spark of idea or thought that popped up within our mind and self - to be "hunted' and "nailed" by writing it down in notes/papers/writing books or as it will be easy for it to be forgotten and gone from the mind by time. He wrote a book on it titled: "صيد الخاطر - Soid al-khatir" for that.

) - I did not expect much the same is happening in other languages too. I saw the word "insaf" is meant by remorse instead of being "just" in the Urdu language that was transferring it into the Malay language with same form and meaning. So, I am asking others if the experience is common and what words from your language that you believe it was derived from the Arabic language especially those that have discrepancy problems of meaning in the local language or dialect compared to the donor language: Arabic, that it was distorted when absorbed in the recipient language.
