We are studying dispersal of fungal spores experimentally. We use exponential kernel for data analysis as it is well-established in literature to match rain splash dispersal. I noted that 1D dispersal from point source does not look similar to 2D dispersal from line-source, when reducing the outcome of 2D dispersal to 1D along the direction of the line source. If using a Gaussian kernel, the reduced 2D would be analogous to 1D because the kernel is separable. Is this phenomenon studied for dispersal or other processes and can you suggest good references analysing it?
