I have instructions to spin samples at 13G. I only know this unit as the gravitational constant. Did my supervisor mean "g"? If so, the RPM for my centrifuge is only 325, lower than the minimum speed.
Could someone please explain the "G" unit in this context?

'g' would be the correct choice, because (m*g) converts to units of force.
'G' is the gravitaional constant, and although it is used in calculating 'g', a number of 13*G would be meaningless.
When people sometimes say e.g. an F-16 can turn at 9 G's, they really mean 9 g's.
In the case of your centrifuge, it would be 13*g
The radial acceleration a of a body moving at constant speed v in a circle of radius r is given by a = r *(omega)^2. omega = 2*pi*f, where f is the frequency in rev/second. 325 rev/min is 5.42 rev./sec. Then a = 29.2 *r. It depends on the radius.To get 13* g you need a radius of 4.35 meters. There is no doubt that G is NOT the gravitational constant here; it makes no sense.
I think based on the nature of the experiment that has to do with centrifuge. There must be a stirring rate or stirring speed used to describe the hydrodynamics of the particles in suspension. G is stirring intensity for mixing or flux density with a unit S^-1
if u av rpm. It can be emperically converted to S-1 unit
