But to some extent, the values of particle size and crystallite size is nearly same. The information obtained from the analysis of the X-ray diffraction pattern of a sample basically refers to the type of crystalline structure(s) and the size (crystallite size) of its unit cell(s). In turn, analysis via SEM/TEM allows, in addition to seeing the separation between planes, to determine the size of the grains (particles sizes) formed during the process of nucleation and growth of the material.
The main difference between the particle size and crystallite size is that particle size refers to the size of individual particles that make up a material, whereas crystallite size refers to the size of the ordered, crystalline regions within a particle. Roy Sfadia
