If so, he would not be the only unlikely or famous deathbed convert (Carrel, Wilde, Flew, Joad). I ask because I have just come across a new book by L R Croft on Darwin and Lady Hope describing her life and how her reputation was trashed by all and sundry after she claimed Darwin had told her he had now returned to the Christian faith. If the research in this book is correct, and it does seem to have been done quite carefully, then this whole story does no credit to Darwinians and atheists, and Lady H has been the victim of a nasty character assassination.
