I read few reports on lyophilization of cells for preservation. I am curious to understand how feasible is this approach? What are the challenges, practical constraints?
Hi Rakesh, That sounds very sophisticated. In my opinion lyophilization of cells will virtually take away all the water content from the cells and thus will cause collapse/damage of the cellular architecture. Also, the biological function of the cell after lyophilization may be completely lost. If there is a way to preserve the biological function even after lyophilization that will be very interesting.
