I hope I can get help in the understanding of this for Phonons (when particularly speaking of Thermal Phonons) :

What is the reason (or reasons) that the Chemical Potential of Phonons is zero?

The chemical potential for a bosonic system does not exist for systems in which the particle number is not conserved. Since the number of phonons is not conserved, the chemical potential does not exist.
